The second is the Southwest Monsoon season which occurs from June to September. During the Northeast Monsoon, northeast winds prevail, sometimes reach 20 km/h (12 mph). During World War II, Singapore was occupied by Japan in 1942 and returned to British control as a Crown colony following Japan’s surrender in 1945.
